Unemployment Education Grants

Being unemployed can be quite frustrating. It is difficult to have to wake up every morning and wonder how you are going to make it through the next day. The good news is that if you go back to school, then you can increase your chances of getting a job. Schooling is expensive, but there are many grants available in order to offset the cost.

Federal Pell Grant

The Federal Pell Grant is one of the most popular educational grants. It is specifically designed for low-income individuals who want to finish their education. There has been legislation passed in order to allow people who are unemployed to get the Federal Pell Grant.

In order to be eligible for the Federal Pell Grant, you must not have earned an undergraduate degree. You can be enrolled in school full-time or part-time in order to receive this financial aid. Additionally, you must not have defaulted on any student loans.

There are several things that you can use the Federal Pell Grant for. You can use it to cover tuition and related-expenses. You can also use it to cover books and supplies that you need for class. If you stay on campus, then you can use it to cover room and board. Additionally, if you have dependents, then you can use it to cover the expenses that are required in order to care for them.

Your financial need is one of the main factors that will determine how much money you are able to get.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant

If your Pell Grant is not enough to cover your expenses, then you can apply for the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant. Only undergraduate students are eligible for this grant. You will be asked questions about your income, grades and financial need before you are approved for this grant. You can contact FAFSA if you have trouble filling out the application.


If you plan on majoring education, then you may be eligible for the TEACH grant. You can get up to $4,000 per year in order to put towards your education. In order to get this grant, you must agree to teach in an area that is in need. You must also agree to work for a school that serves low-income students. You must also agree to teach in the area for at least four years.

Even though it is free to get the grant, you will be required to pay it back if you do not meet all of the obligations. You will have to pay this money to the Department of Education. You have to complete a FAFSA in order to get this grant.

Other Career-Specific Grants

If you are going to school for a trade such as truck driving or welding, you may be able to get a career grant. The type of skills required for the job are some of the things that determine your eligibility for the grant. There are career schools that offer this grant.

Work Investment Act

This is a program that is designed to help unemployed and low-individuals. If you are interested in this program, then you will need to make an appointment with the WIA office. Many colleges and trade schools work with WIA.

This program will pay for you to earn a trade or degree. You will be able to get a grant to go to school for up to two years. You can get assistance from WIA if you are receiving an unemployment check, food stamps and other forms of public assistance. You can also get assistance from this program if your previous job was shut down.

The Trade Adjustment Assistance Grant

If you lost your job because it was outsourced to another country, then you may be eligible for the Trade Adjustment Assistance grant. You will need to fill out the Petition for Trade Adjustment Assistance grant. You can go to the United States Department of Labor website.

Tuition Waiver

If you are an older adult who is interested in continuing their education, then you may be eligible for a tuition waiver. There are some technical schools and colleges that offer discounted prices to people who are over the age of 50.
